Rajat Patidar has been appointed as the new captain of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for the upcoming IPL season, confirmed Thursday. He replaces South African Faf du Plessis, who exited the team last year.

Patidar, retained by RCB during the mega auction in November 2024, has a commendable track record, having led Madhya Pradesh to the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final. He was the second leading run-scorer in the domestic T20 series.

The announcement ends speculation surrounding Virat Kohli's potential return as captain. Kohli, who congratulated Patidar on his new role, previously led RCB in 143 matches and is second only to MS Dhoni in terms of captaincy tenure.
