Olympic medallist Vijender Singh is advocating for enhanced international exposure for Indian boxers to elevate their chances at the 2028 Los Angeles Games. Singh highlights the need for new and fair elections in the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) to ensure robust governance.
Since the Paris Olympics, Indian boxers have been missing from international competitions, with the women's national championships suffering repeated delays. Furthermore, BFI elections are overdue, which led to intervention by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to establish an ad-hoc committee.
Singh expressed a willingness to aid in fortifying the federation, should the government seek his expertise. Challenges persist within Indian boxing, including an empty-handed Paris Olympic campaign and the suspended state of the International Boxing Association by the IOC, casting doubt on boxing’s future in Olympic events.
