Australia’s captain and key bowler, Pat Cummins, is on the mend and training hard to prepare for the 2025 Indian Premier League and the World Test Championship Final against South Africa. Sidelined by an ankle injury incurred during the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India, Cummins is optimistic about his fitness as he resumes play.

'The ankle is on the mend,' Cummins told ESPNcricinfo, revealing his ankle had received careful treatment during this period of inactivity. 'It’s been rested and steadily built up. It feels as strong as it has in a long while. I’m hopeful of being ready for the IPL,' he added.

By intentionally missing some matches, Cummins emphasized the importance of managing workload in balancing fitness and performance in competitive cricket. With fast bowlers in demand, young talents like Ben Dwarshuis and Nathan Ellis have stepped up in the Champions Trophy, showcasing Australia’s depth in the pace department.

Looking forward, Cummins has his sights on Australia’s white-ball commitments, such as the T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka and the 2027 ODI World Cup. As defending champions, the team aims to maintain their momentum, with Cummins planning to lead them through the challenges ahead.
