After surviving two five-setters, Japan's Kei Nishikori cruised past Joao Sousa 7-6(6) 6-1 6-2 to reach the fourth round for the seventh time.

0435 SERENA EASES INTO LAST-16

Seven-time Melbourne champion Serena Williams made light work of Dayana Yastremska, beating the Ukrainian 6-2 6-1 in the third round.

Serena, chasing a record 24th Grand Slam title, will next face older sister Venus or world number one Simona Halep for a place in the quarter-finals.

0400 SEVASTOVA POWERS PAST WANG

Anastasija Sevastova, seeded 13th, broke Chinese number one Wang Qiang four times on her way to a convincing 6-3 6-3 victory.

The Latvian has returned to the second week at Melbourne Park for the first time in eight years and she will meet U.S. Open champion Naomi Osaka.

Sixth seed Elina Svitolina rallied from 3-0 down in the final set to beat China's Zhang Shuai 4-6 6-4 7-5 in just under three hours on Rod Laver Arena.

The 24-year-old Ukrainian will meet Belgian Elise Mertens or American Madison Keys in the last 16.

Japanese fourth seed Naomi Osaka roared back from a set down to beat Taiwan's Hsieh Su-wei 5-7 6-4 6-1 on Margaret Court Arena.
