Indonesian badminton star Jonatan Christie successfully began his title defense at the All England Open in Birmingham, securing a straight-sets victory, 21-11, 21-19, over Malaysia's Jun Hao Leong. This win continues Christie's string of impressive performances, including a semi-final appearance at the India Open and a runner-up finish at the Indonesia Masters.

Reflecting on his journey, Christie expressed his joy at returning as the defending champion, contrasting this year to the previous year when he had lesser expectations. His next challenge will be against India's Lakshya Sen in the last 16.

In the women's singles, Japan's Akane Yamaguchi overcame Vietnam's Thuy Linh Nguyen in an intense match, as she aims for a comeback after last year's finals disappointment. Yamaguchi advances to face India's Malvika Bansod. Meanwhile, top seed An Se-young of South Korea is set to face China's Gao Fangjie, eyeing a return to the top spot.
