The Sports Ministry has announced a cash reward of Rs 67.50 lakh for the Indian women's kabaddi team, celebrating their victory in the Asian Championship in Iran. India retained the title by defeating hosts Iran 32-25, marking a successful tournament after an eight-year break.
India's triumph in the competition, last held in 2017, saw them previously defeating South Korea for the trophy. Upon their return to India, the team was honored by Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, who pledged further support for female athletes.
The minister emphasized equal opportunities, with plans to launch a women's kabaddi league. Additionally, initiatives to involve the corporate sector in supporting sports and opening academies were discussed. India's team dominated the group phase against Thailand, Bangladesh, and Malaysia, advancing easily to beat Nepal in the semi-finals and finally Iran in the final.
