The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) has rejected former Sports Minister Anurag Thakur's nomination from the electoral college for the March 28 elections. The BFI cited that Thakur was deemed 'ineligible' to represent Himachal Pradesh in the proceedings.
According to the Himachal Pradesh Boxing Association (HPBA), Thakur was nominated alongside President Rajesh Bhandari. However, BFI insists Thakur's ineligibility stems from a violation of its March 7 notice and the National Sports Development Code of India, 2011. The ruling highlights that only duly elected members can represent state bodies.
In response, HPBA Secretary Surender Kumar Shandil reaffirmed Thakur's election to the Executive Council, although the BFI's records reportedly show otherwise. Meanwhile, the clock ticks towards the elections, with key dates for nominations yet to be disclosed by BFI.
