PCB Slashes National T20 Cup Match Fees Despite Earlier Promises

The Pakistan Cricket Board reduces National T20 Cup player match fees by 75%. Contrasting earlier promises of financial support, Chairman Mohsin Naqvi emphasized spending on cricket development, not hoarding funds. The fee cut isn't financially driven but due to increased earning opportunities from more tournaments.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has implemented a significant reduction in match fees, ahead of the upcoming National T20 Cup. As reported by ESPNcricinfo, the revised fee structure sees players earning PKR 10,000, a startling 75% decrease from last year's tournament fee of PKR 40,000. Reserve players will now receive PKR 5,000.

This cut marks a substantial decline from the PKR 60,000 match fee in 2022. The decision comes as a stark departure from PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi's publicly expressed commitment to invest in the sport's future within Pakistan. Naqvi had previously emphasized the board's funds should be actively used for player development, fitness, training, and coaching.

A PCB insider revealed to ESPNcricinfo that the fee reduction is not tied to financial issues. Instead, the organization believes that the introduction of more tournaments has enhanced players' earning potentials. The National T20 Cup, commencing on March 14, will feature 39 matches across Faisalabad, Lahore, and Multan, concluding with the final on March 27 in Faisalabad.
