Danish badminton star Viktor Axelsen, pursuing his third All England title, suffered a surprising first-round defeat to Taiwan's Lin Chun-Yi. The 31-year-old expressed his intention to take a hiatus from competitive play.
In an interview with Danish TV2, Axelsen stated, "I didn't have the best feeling out there and believe I need a longer break from the sport."
India's badminton icon, PV Sindhu, also saw an early exit, losing to South Korea's Kim Ga-Eun, marking significant upsets in the tournament's opening rounds. Meanwhile, Olympic champion An Se-Young of South Korea progressed smoothly.
