Field hockey player Tom Craig has been recalled to the Australian national team, ending a six-month suspension following a drug-related incident during the Paris Olympics. His arrest in Paris last year led to his removal from the team after an attempted drug purchase.
The 29-year-old was initially given a 12-month suspension by Hockey Australia, half of which was suspended. Despite the ban, Craig maintained his professional career overseas, playing in Germany and vying for a return to the national squad led by new coach Mark Hager.
With 142 games for Australia under his belt, Craig is now set to participate in upcoming Pro League matches across Belgium, England, and Germany. Reflecting on his suspension, Craig expressed deep gratitude for the unwavering support from his community, after securing Olympic silver with his team in Tokyo.
