Opposition Calls for Deeper Scrutiny on Sports Governance Bills

Several opposition party leaders have formally requested Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to transfer the National Sports Governance Bill, 2025, and the National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill, 2025, to a joint parliamentary committee for in-depth evaluation.

In a letter addressed to the Speaker, the opposition emphasized that the bills, which are set for legislative discussion, carry substantial national importance. These proposals aim to implement extensive reforms concerning the governance and oversight of sports, impacting both sportspersons and governance on an international scale.

Highlighting the need for comprehensive consultation and consensus, opposition members asserted that a Joint Parliamentary Committee would allow a thorough review and alignment with global standards, ensuring effective reform in India's sporting sector.
