Jaroslav Kostl has been named as the interim coach for the Czech Republic's final World Cup qualifier against Gibraltar, as announced by the Czech Football Association on Wednesday.

Formerly the assistant to Ivan Hašek, Kostl ascends to the top coaching role following Hašek's firing on October 15, after a shocking 2-1 loss to the Faroe Islands.

In addition to the decisive match against Gibraltar on November 17, Kostl will lead the team during a friendly against San Marino on November 13. The association suggests a foreign coach will likely be appointed permanently afterward. A win over Gibraltar might secure the Czechs' path to the 2026 World Cup, moving them to the European playoffs.
