Former India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has underscored the importance of providing support, space, and open communication to Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Ashwin believes that these cricketing champions deserve an optimal environment to perform at their best, especially after marking their return to competitive cricket following retirement from Test matches.

The dynamic pair made their much-anticipated comeback during an international fixture against Australia since the ICC Champions Trophy Final in March. However, their performance was subdued, with Rohit Sharma scoring 8 runs off 14 balls and Virat Kohli dismissed for a duck. Rain-affected conditions further hampered India's efforts, culminating in a seven-wicket defeat.

On his YouTube channel 'Ash ki Baat', Ashwin highlighted the impressive legacy of Rohit and Virat in ODIs and T20Is, suggesting that with appropriate backing from team management and the cricket ecosystem, their successful track record can continue. He asserted the necessity for Rohit and Virat to play without external pressure so they can relish the game, ultimately benefiting the team. Ashwin added that, while Rohit still has the 50-over World Cup to pursue, Virat, having achieved major milestones, should now focus on guiding the team with his vast experience.

India faces a crucial task ahead on Thursday, as they prepare to meet Australia at the Adelaide Oval, needing a win to level the series. Meanwhile, Australia aims to clinch the series with a victory in the second ODI.
