Rugby Dual International Alex Hodgman Retires from Professional Play

Alex Hodgman, the versatile prop who distinguished himself by playing for both New Zealand and Australia, has announced his retirement from professional rugby at the age of 32. Hodgman, born in Auckland, made a name for himself when he debuted with the All Blacks in 2020. Four years later, he shifted allegiances to don the Australian gold against Georgia.

Hodgman joins a select group, becoming the fourth player in 50 years to represent both nations, following legends Ted Jessep, Des Connor, and Owen Stephens. The club recently welcomed Aidan Ross after his recent appearance for Australia against Japan. Hodgman's tenure in rugby was diverse, having played for the Auckland Blues and Canterbury Crusaders in Super Rugby.

Now, as he heads back to Auckland, Hodgman reflects on his career and future. "Setting up my family has always been the most important thing," he expressed. Along with Hodgman, three other players, Connor Vest, Sef Fa'agase, and Max Craig, are also departing the Queensland Reds.
