Shreyas Iyer, India's ODI vice-captain, is on the road to recovery after suffering a critical injury during the third ODI against Australia. Having suffered a ruptured spleen and rib cage injury, Iyer has been moved out of the Intensive Care Unit at a Sydney hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
An anonymous source from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed the update, stating that Iyer's condition has significantly improved, but he will remain in the hospital for a few more days. The injury occurred while Iyer attempted a challenging catch and later developed complications due to a lacerated spleen.
BCCI recognized the swift medical response from the on-field staff, which prevented the situation from becoming critical. Shreyas Iyer's fellow cricketers, including the T20 skipper Suryakumar Yadav, expressed relief at his recovery progress and the support received from doctors and BCCI. Iyer's family is expected to travel to Sydney to be with him during his recuperation.
