The Indian Super League (ISL) is facing a critical juncture as 12 clubs have appealed to the All India Football Federation (AIFF) to address the pressing commercial uncertainties threatening the competition. The clubs emphasize that the expiration of the Marketing Rights Agreement (MRA) could render their operations untenable.
With the MRA between the AIFF and Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL) ending on December 8, the league risks losing its commercial framework. The absence of central revenue has already caused financial strain, compelling clubs to seek immediate intervention for a sustainable commercial model.
In response, the AIFF is urged to collaborate with the government and stakeholders to devise a remedial course of action. Clubs also propose potential changes to the AIFF Constitution to expedite solutions. As the tender for a new commercial partner failed to attract interest, a revised approach is necessary to ensure the league's ongoing viability.
