India's Kurash contingent is gearing up for the upcoming Asian Games with a 25-day Senior National Coaching Camp held at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Regional Centre in Gandhinagar. The camp, which commenced on November 21, operates under the SAI's Target Asian Games Group (TAGG) initiative.
The group is composed of 52 individuals, 48 athletes and 4 coaches, supported financially by Rs 1.12 crore from the Assistance to National Sports Federations (ANSFs) scheme. The camp's principal objectives are to provide athletes comprehensive training facilities, coaching, sports science support, and equipment to ensure the teams are optimally prepared for Asiad 2026, scheduled in Japan from September 19 to October 4. Despite the de-recognition of the National Sports Federation for Kurash by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, SAI ensures the athletes' continuous high-performance training regime.
Prior to this intensive camp, selection trials took place at SAI Bhopal from September 17 to 19, conducted by the Kurash Organising Committee and adhered to international standards, including anti-doping compliance and video-based scoring.
