In a significant political development, the Jammu and Kashmir unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded the resignation of Sports Minister Satish Sharma. The call for resignation stems from allegations of discrimination in the selection of the region's squad for the prestigious Santosh Trophy football tournament.
According to BJP spokesperson Rajni Sethi, there are claims of an 'illegal and discriminatory' selection process. She stressed how the policies of the National Conference government have disregarded equal opportunities under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, marginalizing the youth of Jammu.
However, the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council dismissed the allegations, maintaining that the selection process was based on merit and transparency. Despite the controversy, the government is initiating new opportunities, with plans for a Jammu super league and focused winter camps in the Jammu region.
