Former fast bowler Pramodya Wickramasinghe has been appointed as the head of Sri Lanka's national selection committee, overseeing both men's and women's senior cricket squads, ESPNcricinfo reported on Tuesday. The committee consists of former cricketers Vinothen John, Indika de Saram, Rasanjali Chandima Silva, and Tharanga Paranavitana.

Wickramasinghe, who chaired the committee from 2021 to 2023, was removed following Sri Lanka's disappointing performance at the 2023 ICC Men's ODI World Cup. He previously served on a selection committee led by Sanath Jayasuriya from 2013 to 2015. Jayasuriya now serves as the head coach of Sri Lanka's men's cricket team.

Sri Lanka's sports ministry announced these changes, with SLC's CEO Ashley de Silva explaining that approximately ten names were proposed to the ministry, which made the final selections. "There is no specific term for the role; it will continue until further notice," de Silva said. Pramodya Wickramasinghe, aged 54, played 40 Tests and 134 ODIs for Sri Lanka, gathering 85 and 109 wickets respectively. Meanwhile, India and Sri Lanka are gearing up to co-host the 10th edition of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup next year, spanning 29 days across eight venues. (ANI)
