FIFA announced the creation of the first Women's Club World Cup, set to take place in January 2028. The tournament, scheduled from January 5 to 30, has yet to find a host nation but is expected to happen in a country with warmer climates that time of the year.
The tournament will consist of 16 teams, a format similar to the expanded men's Club World Cup held in the U.S. earlier. The dates were confirmed by FIFA's council during a meeting in Doha, Qatar.
This event will coincide with European domestic league seasons like the Women's Super League in England; however, it won't clash with the Women's Champions League, which pauses in January. Meanwhile, the NWSL in America will be in its offseason, ensuring the tournament won't interfere with it.
