The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has intensified its investigation into the recent gherao of seven judicial officers in Mothabari, Malda. On the second day of their probe, the team, directed by a DIG-ranked official, meticulously documented the scene and surroundings.

The NIA's involvement comes under the orders of the Supreme Court, following criticism of the West Bengal administration over the incident. The unrest erupted during an electoral roll revision when locals alleged wrongful deletions, leading to the blockade of NH-12.

So far, authorities have detained 35 individuals and registered 19 cases. Among those arrested is a former AIMIM candidate identified as the 'mastermind' of the blockade. The NIA plans to question the judicial officers involved to gather their perspectives on the ordeal.
