Scott Weenink, the chief executive of New Zealand Cricket (NZC), has announced his resignation following a clash with players and member associations over the future trajectory of cricket in the country. The primary contention revolves around the role of T20 cricket.
During his two-and-a-half-year tenure, Weenink opposed a franchise-based T20 league, a proposal supported by the New Zealand Players' Association and six major state bodies. This discord has led to his decision to step down on January 30.
Weenink expressed pride in the strides made during his leadership, including financial gains and long-term broadcast agreements. However, he emphasized that new leadership is required to align more closely with the stakeholders' vision.
