Ravi Bishnoi, a leg-spinner, has been called up to India's T20I squad for the upcoming five-match series against New Zealand. The inclusion comes following an injury to all-rounder Washington Sundar, who will miss the games starting on January 21 in Nagpur.
Shreyas Iyer, a seasoned batter, has been selected for the initial three T20Is in place of Tilak Varma, who is sidelined by a side strain. The BCCI confirmed Bishnoi's selection after Washington's acute rib discomfort was diagnosed, during the first ODI against New Zealand in Vadodara.
The injury rules out Washington from the series, and he will recuperate at the BCCI Centre of Excellence. Details from the BCCI reveal his diagnosis involved expert consultation, following which Bishnoi, with 61 wickets in 42 T20Is, joins the squad.
