Leander Paes, renowned for his 18 Grand Slam tennis victories, is redirecting his passion towards golf to foster a new generation of Indian Olympic champions. He has joined forces with the Indian Golf Union (IGU), Professional Golfers' Association of India (PGAI), and The Gold Foundation (TGF) to establish a pipeline for budding golf talent in the country.
In a landmark move, the Indian Golf Premier League (IGPL), in collaboration with IGU, PGAI, and TGF, launched the 'Golf Growth Initiative,' aimed at cultivating the next wave of Indian golfers. Unveiled at Delhi Golf Club with Paes in attendance, the initiative marks a notable shift in the sport's development by bringing golf to schools and playgrounds to expand the talent pool.
Paes, the only tennis player to compete in seven Olympic Games, plans to establish 10 sports academies nationwide over the next decade. His vision is to create excellence by taking golf to the masses, particularly in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, through training centers and grassroots scouting programs.
