Report: Marlins sign veteran reliever Romo to 1-year deal

The Miami Marlins have reportedly agreed to a one-year deal with veteran reliever Sergio Romo for $2.5 million plus incentives. The deal is pending a physical, according to the report Tuesday from Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com.

Romo made 73 appearances for the Tampa Bay Rays in 2018, posting a 3-4 record with 25 saves and a 4.14 ERA. The right-hander, who turns 36 next month, is 38-31 with 109 saves, a 2.86 ERA and 632 strikeouts in 562 2/3 career innings.

Romo spent his first nine seasons with the San Francisco Giants (2008-16), earning an All-Star selection in 2013 and winning World Series rings in 2010, 2012 and 2014. In Game 4 of the 2012 World Series against the Detroit Tigers, he struck out the side in the bottom of the 10th inning to preserve a 4-3 victory and complete a 4-0 series sweep.

Romo began the 2017 campaign with the Los Angeles Dodgers, but was dealt to the Rays at the trade deadline that July. --Field Level Media
