The Tawangchu River in Arunachal Pradesh roared to life as the six-day Tawangchu Tides International Kayaking Championship concluded near the India-China border. The event brought kayakers from across the nation to test their mettle against the fast-flowing waters that weave through Tibet, Bhutan, and eventually join the mighty Brahmaputra.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, at the closing ceremony, showcased his paddling prowess and became the first Union minister to experience kayaking. Indian athletes Shikha Chouhan, Bhumi Baghel from Madhya Pradesh, and Elizabeth Vincent from Meghalaya emerged victorious, taking home the top three honors in this thrilling competition. Chief Minister Pema Khandu lauded Rijiju's involvement, recognizing it as a testament to his support for sports and adventure tourism in the state.
With the backing of the Arunachal Pradesh government and associations like IKCA and AKCA, the championship not only boosted footfalls but also spurred infrastructural advancements in the region's remote villages.
