FIFA's World Cup chief operating officer, Heimo Schirgi, has declared that the monumental tournament is 'too big' to be delayed despite the ongoing geopolitical tensions involving the US, Israel, and Iran. Speaking from the International Broadcast Center, Schirgi highlighted FIFA's vigilant monitoring of the situation, emphasizing the global event's importance.
The 48-nation tournament is scheduled to commence on June 11 and includes 11 venues in the US, three in Mexico, and two in Canada. Although certain nations face US-imposed travel bans, including Iran, Ivory Coast, Haiti, and Senegal, exceptions will be made for players and officials. FIFA has been in consistent dialogue with Iran's soccer federation, reflecting ongoing international cooperation.
In reaction to ticketing challenges and criticisms over steep pricing, FIFA has introduced a 48-hour window for alternative category sales to previously unsuccessful applicants. This move aims to enhance fan engagement, with FIFA also offering discounted tickets through national federations. The tournament stands as a beacon of global unity amid worldwide tensions.
