Malta to Host Largest Commonwealth Youth Games with Debut Sports

The Commonwealth Youth Games will take place in Malta and Gozo from October 29 to November 4, featuring eight sports including debut events like sailing and water polo. For the first time, para sports will have a substantial presence, marking the largest program in the Games' history, with 1,200 young athletes expected.

The eighth edition of the Commonwealth Youth Games is headed for Malta and Gozo from October 29 to November 4, 2024. The event promises to be a grand affair with the Opening Ceremony scheduled for October 29, followed by six thrilling days of sports action.

Among the highlights of this edition are the eight sports slated for competition, which include swimming and para swimming, athletics and para athletics, netball, sailing, squash, triathlon, water polo, and weightlifting. According to Commonwealth Sport Chief Executive Katie Sadleir, 'Malta 2027 promises an electrifying and competitive atmosphere, showcasing the home of Maltese sport.'

One of the most noteworthy aspects is the inclusion of the largest para sport program in the event's history. Approximately 1,200 athletes, aged 14 to 18, from across the Commonwealth's 74 nations and territories, will compete at venues including the Cottonera Indoor Pool and Tal-Qroqq National Pool.
