In a significant move for the upcoming IPL 2026, Sri Lanka's T20I captain Dasun Shanaka has been confirmed as the replacement for the injured England all-rounder Sam Curran in the Rajasthan Royals squad.
Shanaka, who joins for a sum of Rs 2 crore, adds a wealth of experience with over 3350 international runs and 86 wickets in formats stretching across Tests, ODIs, and T20Is. Although his previous IPL experience was limited to three matches with the Gujarat Titans in 2023, his all-round capabilities are seen as pivotal for the Royals. Kumar Sangakkara, RR's head coach, expressed confidence in Shanaka's ability to maintain the team's balance.
The move marks Shanaka's second departure from the Pakistan Super League, where he played for Lahore Qalandars, to the IPL. The Rajasthan Royals are set to commence their season with a home match against Chennai Super Kings in Guwahati on March 30.
