Mike Pennel walks as a free agent

The New York Jets won't pick up the option on defensive tackle Mike Pennel, ESPN reported Tuesday. Pennel, 27, now will become a free agent.

The Jets had a deadline of Tuesday to pay a $1 million bonus to Pennel, who signed a three-year contract last March. Had the team paid the bonus, the final two years of the contract would have been activated. Pennel, an Arizona State product, played three seasons with Green Bay before joining the Jets in 2017. He played 32 games (10 starts) and made 62 tackles over two seasons with New York.
