India Eyes 2038 Asian Games Hosting in Ahmedabad
India's Olympic chief announced the country's intention to bid for the 2038 Asian Games in Ahmedabad. Already set to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, India is also looking to host the 2036 Olympics. The IOA has expressed interest to the Olympic Council of Asia for the 2038 Games.
India is preparing to submit a bid to host the 2038 Asian Games in Ahmedabad, as confirmed by the country's Olympic chief to Reuters on Saturday. This move represents India's ongoing effort to host elite multi-sport events.
After securing the 2030 Commonwealth Games for Ahmedabad, India has also set its sights on the 2036 Olympic Games in the same city. According to Indian Olympic Association President P. T. Usha, an expression of interest for the 2038 Asian Games has been sent to the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). Speaking from China, where she is attending the Asian Beach Games, Usha mentioned that OCA officials are supportive.
An OCA evaluation committee is expected to visit India soon to assess the feasibility. India previously hosted the Asian Games in 1951 and 1982 in New Delhi and the 2010 Commonwealth Games, which were plagued by mismanagement and corruption issues. Meanwhile, Nagoya in Japan is hosting this year's Asian Games, with future editions set for Doha in 2030 and Riyadh in 2034.
