Sebastien Ogier, the reigning nine-times world champion, secured his first victory of the 2026 World Rally Championship season at Spain's Rally Islas Canarias. Sebastien Ogier, the nine-times world champion, emerged victorious in the 2026 World Rally Championship at Spain's Rally Islas Canarias on Sunday. The Toyota driver, partnered with co-driver Vincent Landais, took the lead during the second special stage, overcoming challenges on the island's tricky asphalt roads.
Despite pressure from his teammate Oliver Solberg, who faced an unfortunate exit after a mishap in the third stage, Ogier maintained his composure. "It's not how we wanted it to be," Ogier commented on Solberg's exit. "Oliver was performing exceptionally well. In rallying, being fast and reaching the finish line are both crucial."
Ogier's triumph adds the Rally Islas Canarias to his prestigious list of victories, marking his 68th career win. The event was closely contested, with Elfyn Evans finishing second and Sami Pajari third. The championship heads to Portugal next month, where the drivers will tackle gravel routes.
