Ogier Leads Toyota Domination at Rally Islas Canarias
Sebastien Ogier led Toyota to dominate the Rally Islas Canarias, taking the lead from Japanese teammate Takamoto Katsuta. France's world champion maintained a 6.6-second lead over Oliver Solberg. Stage three was canceled to remove illegally parked vehicles, highlighting intense competition and Toyota's superior performance.
Sebastien Ogier spearheaded Toyota's impressive performance at the Rally Islas Canarias on Friday, overtaking Japanese teammate Takamoto Katsuta. Ogier, the reigning world champion from France, managed to lead by 6.6 seconds over competitor Oliver Solberg after the day's five stages out of seven.
Takamoto Katsuta, who had won the previous two rounds and became the first Japanese driver to lead the championship, found himself in fifth place, 21 seconds behind Ogier, with teammate Elfyn Evans taking fourth. Dani Sordo, driving for Hyundai, was the closest non-Toyota competitor in sixth place.
Ogier remarked on the competitive Toyota team, highlighting the demanding nature of the rally, "The Toyotas have a great pace compared to others, and the driver lineup is strong," he stated. Stage three saw unexpected events as illegally parked spectator vehicles prompted its cancellation for safety reasons.
