Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan has commended young Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batsman Kartik Sharma, notably for his adeptness in handling spin bowling. Kartik was instrumental in CSK's commanding eight-wicket victory against Delhi Capitals (DC) during their 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) face-off at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Chasing a target of 156 runs, Kartik, secured by CSK for INR 14.20 crores during the IPL auction, delivered an impressive 41 not out off 31 balls. His powerful partnership with Sanju Samson, totaling 114 runs, was crucial in steering CSK to victory. Kartik's calm and composed innings allowed Samson to aggressively pursue his innings, concluding unbeaten on 87 runs from 52 balls.

During a post-match discussion on JioHotstar, Pathan highlighted Kartik's proficient off-side play against spin, his ability to discern variations like the googly, and his confidence in tackling both pace and spin. Pathan remarked on Kartik's expansive shot range, especially over the covers against spinners, which stands as a testament to his growing prowess as a batsman.

In the match's earlier stages, DC opted to bat and were soon struggling at 69/5. However, a crucial 65-run partnership between Tristan Stubbs and Sameer Rizvi pushed their total to a modest 155/7, supported by tight bowling spells from CSK's Akeal and Noor. Sanju Samson then led CSK to a smooth chase, achieving the target in just 17.3 overs.

CSK's triumph moves them to sixth place on the IPL points table with 10 points from 10 matches, while DC drops to seventh, with only four victories from as many games, accumulating eight points overall.
