Luciano Darderi's Epic Italian Open Triumph
Luciano Darderi defeated Spanish teenager Rafael Jodar in a dramatic three-hour match to reach the Italian Open semi-finals. Despite rain delays and interruptions, Darderi's persistence led him to victory, marking a career-best in the Masters 1000. He will face Casper Ruud in the semi-finals.
Italian tennis sensation Luciano Darderi achieved a career milestone by advancing to the Italian Open semi-finals after a grueling victory over 19-year-old Spaniard Rafael Jodar. The match lasted three hours, finally securing Darderi a 7-6(5), 5-7, 6-0 victory in the early hours of Thursday.
The quarter-final on Campo Centrale was not without its challenges. Rain delays extended the contest late into the night, and smoke drift from nearby stadium fireworks temporarily halted play. Despite these setbacks, Darderi's determination thrilled the home crowd in Rome.
Darderi commented on the crowd's support and the match's late timing, saying it was the best win of his career. Now, he faces the formidable Norwegian Casper Ruud, who overcame a rain-interrupted match against Russia's Karen Khachanov to secure his spot in the final four.
