India Secures Hosting of Major Asian Athletics Events

Chandigarh and Bhubaneswar have been chosen to host key Asian athletics events, marking a prestigious moment for India in global sports. The Asian Relays are set for 2027, while the 2028 Asian Indoor Championships will take place at Bhubaneswar's Kalinga Stadium.

Chandigarh and Bhubaneswar have been selected to host prominent Asian athletics events next year, enhancing India's stature on the international sports stage. This decision was announced following the Asian Athletics Association's executive council meeting in Hong Kong.

World Athletics Vice-President Adille Sumariwalla expressed his pride, noting India's achievement in securing the 2027 Asian Relays for Chandigarh and the 2028 Asian Indoor Championships for Bhubaneswar. These events reflect India's strategic push to host more continental and global athletic competitions.

The upcoming Asian Relays will be the third installment, with its inaugural event held in Bangkok in 2024. The 2028 Asian Indoor Championships will utilize the advanced facilities at Kalinga Stadium, which will also be the site for the World Indoor Championships a month later.

India's bid to host these events aligns with its ambition to strengthen its role in global athletics, also expressing interest in future World U20 and senior World Championships.
