The upcoming Ludhiana segment of the Indian Athletics Series, scheduled for June 13, will offer athletes a renewed opportunity to qualify for the Commonwealth Games. The decision was made by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) after athletes at the Federation Cup missed the qualification standards due to adverse weather.
According to Adille Sumariwalla, chair of the AFI selection committee, this decision follows feedback from participants who were unable to perform at their best during the Ranchi meet. Those who narrowly missed qualifying can now attempt to meet the required standards in Ludhiana, ensuring fairness in light of past conditions.
The performances in Ludhiana will be considered for CWG selection only for athletes who participated in the Ranchi events. Athletes who have already qualified may still compete in Ludhiana if they choose. AFI's guidelines for Commonwealth selection remain unchanged, focusing on athletes close to hitting qualification marks.
