Historic Italian Clash Awaits at Roland Garros
Italian tennis player Flavio Cobolli reaches his first Grand Slam semi-final at Roland Garros, defeating Felix Auger-Aliassime. Cobolli's win ensures an all-Italian semi-final, marking a significant moment for Italian tennis since 1976. Cobolli will face countryman Matteo Arnaldi in the semi-finals.
Flavio Cobolli made waves in the tennis world by reaching his first Grand Slam semi-final at Roland Garros on Wednesday night. The 24-year-old Italian staged a remarkable performance inside Court Philippe-Chatrier, overcoming the fourth-seeded Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime with a score of 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4.
The men's draw has opened up considerably since top-seeded Jannik Sinner's unexpected exit in the second round at the hands of Argentina's Juan Manuel Cerundolo. Cobolli has taken full advantage of this opportunity, securing a spot in the final four, and ensuring a significant milestone for Italian tennis.
Cobolli, who did not drop a set in his first three matches, showed resilience in a tough quarter-final match against Zachary Svajda. His latest victory, which took three hours and 23 minutes, solidified his place in a historic all-Italian semi-final, guaranteeing at least one Italian in Sunday's final.
