Major Overhaul in Malaysian Football Governance

The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) is set to undergo major regulatory changes following an examination by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). The review was initiated due to alleged governance issues, including accusations by FIFA of document manipulation. FAM denies these allegations, citing a technical error under investigation.

The Football Association of Malaysia is poised for a significant transformation in its regulatory framework. This decision comes in the wake of an evaluation by the regional authority, the Asian Football Confederation.

The AFC embarked on a review earlier this year after FIFA accused the FAM of manipulating documents to field naturalised players in a crucial match against Vietnam. These claims have instigated the current reforms.

While FAM has strongly denied any misconduct, it acknowledges a technical mishap and has commenced an internal investigation to address the underlying issues.
