Breel Embolo Finally Cleared for World Cup Journey
Switzerland striker Breel Embolo received approval for his U.S. visa after delays related to a legal issue. Initially missing his team's flight for World Cup training in California, Embolo is set to join his teammates after resolving visa-related matters that arose from a past conviction in Switzerland.
Switzerland's star striker Breel Embolo is set to join his teammates in the United States for the World Cup, after resolving a visa issue that delayed his travel plans. Embassy officials in Bern approved Embolo's visa application after addressing a legal matter from a 2018 incident in Basel.
Embolo, who turned 29 earlier this year, missed the team’s initial flight to California due to his Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) being subjected to further review. The Swiss football federation stated that American authorities required additional documentation before granting the travel clearance.
The review was initiated after U.S. officials were informed of a 2023 conviction involving threats, which resulted in a suspended fine. Following successful verification, Embolo is expected to join the national squad at their training base in San Diego by Friday evening.
