Negotiations between the NFL and the NFL Players Association are expected to heat up this month as the two sides try to reach a new collective bargaining agreement before the start of the season, ESPN reported Tuesday. The existing CBA will expire after the 2020 season.

A group of league owners and players have met three times this year and plan to sit at the negotiating table as many as four times this month, ESPN said. Both sides seem optimistic that they can reach an agreement before the current CBA expires. The owners also are set to begin renegotiations of their television deals soon.
