Reports: Smyly set to sign with Phillies

Free-agent left-hander Drew Smyly will sign with the Philadelphia Phillies and likely join the starting rotation, according to multiple reports. Smyly opted out of his minor league contract with the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday.

Smyly, 30, pitched in 13 games (9 starts) with the Texas Rangers this season, going 1-5 with an 8.42 ERA. He made three starts with the Brewers Triple-A affiliate in San Antonio, going 1-0 with a 4.97 ERA.

Over his career, Smyly has appeared in 169 games (94 starts) across six MLB seasons, compiling a 32-32 record with a 4.13 ERA and striking out 604 batters in 621 2/3 innings. --Field Level Media
