Australian teen Ariarne Titmus shocked Olympic champion Katie Ledecky to win the 400 meters freestyle title at the world championships in Gwangju on Sunday. The 18-year-old came home in a time of 3:58.76 ahead of Ledecky (3:59.97), who had been gunning for a fourth straight world crown in the event, with Leah Smith in third (4:01.29).

Swimming: Peaty swims under 57secs to smash breaststroke WR

Britain's Adam Peaty became the first to swim the 100 meters breaststroke in under 57 seconds on Sunday, setting a world record of 56.88 in the semi-finals of the world championships in Gwangju, South Korea. The Olympic champion, who is unbeaten in the event over the last five years at major championships, lowered his own mark of 57.10 set in Glasgow last year.

Pacquiao beats Thurman on split decision

Manny Pacquiao beat defending champion Keith Thurman on a split points decision on Saturday to take the WBA Welterweight Super Championship at the end of an electrifying fight in Las Vegas. Two judges scored it 115-112 to Pacquiao and another gave it 114-113 to Thurman, who suffered his first defeat in 30 fights.

MLB roundup: Davis, A's rally to top Twins

Khris Davis hit a two-run single with two outs in the top of the ninth, as the Oakland A's rallied for a 5-4 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Saturday night in Minneapolis. Oakland was down to its final out against Twins' reliever Taylor Rogers (2-2) when Mark Canha was hit by a pitch. Ramon Laureano followed with a double down the left field line, with Canha stopping at third. Davis then cracked a line drive off the glove of diving first baseman Ehire Adrianza to bring home the game-winning runs.

Swimming: Sun wins men's 400 freestyle gold at world championships

China's Sun Yang won his fourth straight 400 meters freestyle title at the world swimming championships on Sunday, touching home first in a time of 3:42.44. Australia's Olympic champion Mack Horton was second (3:43.17) with Italian Gabriele Detti third (3:43.23).

Cards call up Ravelo, Webb; Leone, Helsley sent down

The St. Louis Cardinals made a bevy of moves on Sunday, which included recalling infielder Rangel Ravelo and left-hander Tyler Webb from Triple-A Memphis. In corresponding moves, the team optioned right-handers Ryan Helsley and Dominic Leone to Memphis.

Golf: Lowry takes stranglehold on Open midway through final round

Shane Lowry overcame a slow start and had one hand on the Claret Jug, five strokes clear of Englishman Tommy Fleetwood halfway through the final round at the British Open on Sunday. Thibaut Pinot emerged as the strongest of the main contenders to win the Tour de France after dominating his rivals for the second successive day in the 15th stage, a 185-km mountain battle won by Briton Simon Yates on Sunday. The Frenchman, who claimed victory at top of the iconic Col du Tourmalet on Saturday, left everyone gasping for air with a brutal attack seven kilometres from the finish in the final ascent to the Prat d'Albis.

WTA roundup: France's Cornet, Ferro to meet in Lausanne final

Third-seeded Alize Cornet of France posted a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Germany's Tamara Korpatsch on Saturday to reach the championship match of the Ladies Open Lausanne in Switzerland. Cornet needed 1 hour, 45 minutes to defeat Korpatsch and set up an all-French final with close friend Fiona Ferro. It is the first career WTA final for Ferro, who recorded a 6-1, 6-4 victory over American Bernarda Pera in the other semifinal.

ATP roundup: Isner gunning for fourth Hall of Fame title

Top-seeded John Isner recorded 15 aces while outlasting fourth-seeded Frenchman Ugo Humbert 6-7 (4), 7-6 (5), 6-3 on Saturday at Newport, R.I., to advance to the final of the Hall of Fame Open. Isner will face seventh-seeded Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan in the title match as he attempts to win the event for the fourth time (2011, 2012, 2017). Bublik registered 10 aces while defeating Spain's Marcel Granollers 7-6 (5), 3-6, 6-4 in the other semifinal.
