The Pittsburgh Pirates suspended bullpen coach Euclides Rojas for two games for violating his contract, the team announced Tuesday. Team officials indicated there would be no further comment on Rojas' situation. He began serving the suspension Tuesday when the Pirates faced the Cincinnati Reds.

Rojas, in his ninth season as bullpen coach, has been with the Pirates organization for 16 seasons, including all of Clint Hurdle's tenure as manager since 2011. Rojas was the Latin American field coordinator from 2005-10 and served as roving minor league instructor in 2002. He also has worked as bullpen coach for the Miami Marlins and Boston Red Sox.

Born in Havana in 1967, Rojas fled Cuba in August 1994 with his wife Marta, their 2-year-old son Euclides Jr. and others on a 15-foot raft. They were rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard 23 miles from Key West, Fla., after a five-day ordeal.
