Belgian cyclist Bjorg Lambrecht has died at the age of 22, after a crash during stage three of the Tour de Pologne, the Belgian World Tour cycling team posted on Twitter. The team said in a statement "The biggest tragedy possible that could happen to the family, friends, and teammates of Bjorg has happened… Rest in peace Bjorg"

Lambrecht was involved in a crash and race organizers said he had been resuscitated before being rushed to the hospital.

It is believed Lambrecht's vital functions were restored by doctors but that he died during surgery, according to hospital spokesman Michal Sieron. Tragic Lambrecht was regarded as one of Belgium's most promising riders and in 2017 won the Under-23s version of the prestigious Liege-Bastogne-Liege race. Lambrecht rode for UCI WorldTeam Lotto–Soudal and in August 2018, he was named in the start list for 2018 Vuelta an España.
