Veteran infielder Martin Prado has told friends he likely will retire, MLB Network's Jon Heyman reported Wednesday. Prado, 36, played the past five seasons with the Miami Marlins. The 14-year veteran owns a career .287 batting average with 100 home runs and 609 RBIs.

The Venezuelan utility player batted .233 with two homers and 15 RBIs in 104 games last season with Miami. Prado debuted in 2006 with the Atlanta Braves, with whom he was a full-time player from 2009-12. He also played for the Arizona Diamondbacks (2013-14) and New York Yankees (2014).
