Rasmus Dahlin of the Buffalo Sabres is out indefinitely because of a concussion he sustained Monday night. The 19-year-old defenseman took an elbow to the face from Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Erik Cernak in a 5-2 defeat. The NHL suspended Cernak two games and fined him $7,500, but he told reporters on Wednesday that he "didn't mean to hurt Dahlin."

The Sabres undoubtedly will miss the offense provided by Dahlin, who was the No. 1 pick of the 2018 NHL Draft. In 24 games this season, he has one goal and 15 assists. Coach Ralph Krueger also said that Buffalo center Vladimir Sobotka will be out "long-term" after having surgery Tuesday on his right knee. He was injured Nov. 8 in the first period of the Sabres' 3-2 loss to the Lightning in the NHL Global Series in Stockholm.

The 32-year-old Sobotka had one goal and two assists in 16 games before the injury.
