Catcher Gary Sanchez likely will be out of the lineup for the New York Yankees at least one month because of a lingering groin injury, general manager Brian Cashman disclosed in a conference call Wednesday.

Cashman said he doesn't expect Sanchez to return until late August or early September. He added catchers Austin Romine and Kyle Higashioka will handle the catching duties and that he was "not optimistic" that the Yankees could acquire a catcher before the trade deadline next Tuesday.

The Yankees placed Sanchez on the 10-day disabled list Tuesday because of a right groin strain, the same injury that kept him on the shelf for nearly a month before his return last week.

"We'll certainly look at all those aspects [on the trade market], but seeing how other clubs have had to deal with that over the course of this season as well, I already recognize it's a very thin position," Cashman said. "It's not easy to solve if there are issues there. ... Thankfully, what Gary has is a solvable health issue. It's just a timing one. We'll just have to wait for it. Hopefully, we'll be in a better position when he returns."

On the year, he has a .188 batting average with 14 home runs and 42 RBIs. Last season, he hit .278 with 33 homers and 90 RBIs and made the AL All-Star team.
