State run Southeastern Philippines University to launch data center project worth PHP 4.89 mn

The services of the projects can be utilized by the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARD), and banana farmers.

Philippines' state-run University Southeastern Philippines (USEP) is soon going to launch a data center project worth PHP 4.89 million.

Acting Dean of Schools of Applied Economics of USEP, Jennifer Hinlo revealed the project is a collaboration among the Central Luzon State University and the Visayas State University and USEP.

The aim of the data center is to help policymakers while making decisions. The three basic services include socio-economic services like data analysis; training capability for researchers; and database management.

The services of the projects can be utilized by the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARD), and banana farmers.

Jennifer Hinlo said: "As much as possible we will cater to as many sectors and we will start getting the needs of the industries, the government and also those private researchers."

The data center will offer the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development will offer services such as a study on impact evaluation on crop insurance of beneficiaries.

More than 100 speakers will assemble for an event on the topic analyzing "Science and Technology-related institutional capacity and readiness to effectively implement the Food Safety Act" which will be held on August 17.

During the event, there will be a discussion on the study done by the University of the Philippines Los Baños' College of Economic and Management on "the ASEAN economic community: the opportunities and implication on agri-fisheries and forestry sectors".
