Google increases limits for direct and indirect group memberships
Google Groups for Business service has limits for message activity, group size, invitations, and membership. To give customers more flexibility to scale and manage their use of Groups, Google is increasing the limits for the number of direct and indirect group memberships.
Specifically, the limit for direct group memberships has been raised from 2,000 to 3,000, while the limit for combined direct and indirect memberships has been raised from 5,000 to 7,500.
Being the owner or manager of a group is equivalent to having two memberships: one as a member of the group and another as the owner or manager. In case a user is part of a different group that's nested within the group, they are considered an indirect member of the group.
"Increasing these membership limits gives our customers more flexibility to scale and manage their use of Groups, especially those with complex group structures," Google wrote in a blog post.
This update is now available for all Google Workspace customers.
Meanwhile, Google is rolling out improvements to Calendar Interoperability - the critical component to help ensure events created in one calendar system are accurately propagated for guests using different calendar systems. This functionality allows for efficient scheduling and collaborative management of schedules, regardless of the specific calendaring platform being used.
With the latest update, you will see the following changes:
- Microsoft Outlook users who utilize the same email address for Google Calendar have the ability to receive Google Calendar invitations and RSVPs directly within Outlook.
- When an invitation is generated in Google Calendar, Microsoft Outlook will automatically generate a default meeting reminder to ensure that Outlook users don't miss any events.
- Additionally, non-Google Calendar recurring events will be updated in a more systematic and accurate manner within Google Calendar.
The above changes are available to all Google Workspace customers, legacy G Suite Basic and Business customers as well as to users with personal Google Accounts.
